Answers to Questions from the Public

Describe your position on Contracting Out and Public Private Partnerships and how they effect existing jobs.

Dennis Giesbrecht Answered

Public private partnerships can be investigated in supplying a service currently not available in our city. For example some cities have build a facility with a hotel attached to limit taxpayer cost while a needed facility gets built.

What are the top three critical issues facing your community?

Asked by: Kamloops and District Labour Council asked the City Councillor, Mayor Candidates
Dennis Giesbrecht Answered

1. Street issues and community safety are by far the biggest topic I have been hearing at peoples doors. We need the agencies tasked to help the street population to be much more engaged and accountable to the surrounding communities.
2. Overall accountability and transparency needs improving at city hall, many people feel they are not heard or respected. A robust ethics and integrity program must be pursued to bring trust and confidence back to council, doing the minimum required is no longer good enough.
3. Affordability in housing, whether its rental or for purchase. The city needs to remove red tape/zoning delays and fast tract the construction of homes of all kinds, (single family, duplex, apartments, etc).

If you are a Union member, does your union (provide union/local name) offer endorsement to members running for public office? If so, have you applied for/received endorsement from your union?

Dennis Giesbrecht Answered

I am currently a Boilermaker union member under the Quality Control Council of Canada.
